HOLLEY'S WOOD
Coming in 2008

A feature length documentary project about the life and work of self-taught, Alabama artist Lonnie Holley.

Over the past thirteen years—sometimes alone—sometimes with a crew, media artist George King has followed Lonnie Holley with a camera. During that time we have compiled a remarkable record of a major American artist at work, and simultaneously chronicled the life of a poor, black family in contemporary America. An investigation into the intersection of class, race, and culture. Its quite a story.

HOME
An investigation into the current shift in public housing policy in America. Following (or perhaps leading) a trend in low-income housing policy, the Atlanta Housing Authority (AHA) is in the midst of a massive transformation. In the past 10 years or so we have witnessed the destruction of most of the city's public housing units—many of which 'enjoyed' notorious reputations for lawlessness. They are being replaced with 'mixed income' neighborhoods. But some have criticized AHA, who keeps no records of what happens to those displaced by this upheaval. Is this a breakthrough in housing policy that will usher in a new era of better housing for all? Or is it a way to deliver desirable intown locations to wealthier Atlantans, while the poor are pushed out into ex-urbia, without public transportation or the prospect of jobs? We have filmed interviews with many residents displaced by these programs—we will return to find out what happens to them over the next five years. In progress.
